Throughout his career, Wendell Castle has produced a wide range of pieces that could be characterized as both furniture and sculpture. Walking Cabinet appears, at first glance, to be purely sculptural, but behind its camouflaged door is a usable interior. The imaginative work exemplifies Castle’s philosophy that new ideas can take shape only “when we clear our minds of preconceived notions about the way furniture should look.”
